Comments: My mother is a Snodgrass and I stumbled in here looking for info on her past. When I try to look at the Source Books, my computer keeps locking up every time I try to scroll down the page. Anybody have any idea what the problem is? Great site if I could read that stuff. Thanks.

I am a Snodgrass decendant as my mother was a
Snodgrass. I found our family in the geneology charts on your website. My Grandfather was
a John Willliam Snodgrass, and his father was
William Snodgrass of Benton Co. Arkansas.
I think 5 of the youngest children and all their
decendants are not recorded there.

Comments: It was so good to find this site!! My family is from Australia - we have a family history linking back to Scotland. Lots of work has been done on our family tree. We have some very interesting historical data. The oldest Snodgrass I have been told of was Neil Snodgrass (we have a painting of him in his kilt with his hunting dogs at his feet - and needless to say it is very old!!) born circa 1665. My mother has in her possession a small piece of Snodgrass tartan which is the same pattern as the one shown on this site!! My mother is Susan (Susie) Buchanan Snodgrass, my grandfather John Neill Buchanan Snodgrass and my great grandfather Arthur Buchanan Snodgrass - and my name is Annie Marion Roxburgh Snodgrass!!

Comments: I am looking for Walter Snodgrass who served in a tank battalion attached to the 9th infantry inWWll.My dad is 83,Loy Beene, and says that Walter got him back alive and would so like to hear what happened to him. He came to Canada in the 60's,moved to Hamilton, Ontario,Canada, met and married my mom Lucille who's from New Brunswick Canada. His father is Graham Snodgrass who died in 1995 in New Zealand and my aunt Heather Baker lives in Auckland. I have one sister, Chantal. I'm constantly asked if I'm related to .... Snodgrass and I say I might be, distantly. My grandfather was one of 6 children, I can't recall my great grandfather. Comments: I have recently discovered that my great great grandmother's maiden name was Snodgrass! I have been searching for her for years! I have a diary of my grandfather's from 1913 when he and his mother, Mary Elizabeth Huffman, visited Schuyler Co, Illinois with "Aunt Maggie" and "Uncle Will Koontz". Aunt Maggie is Margaret Anna Snodgrass. I then found that Hannah Snodgrass married Casper Huffman! So I believe I have found Mary's parents!
If anyone is interested in reading the diary entries I would be more than willing to share this information. I would love to know more about Hannah and Casper also. Thank you for your wonderful website!

I happened upon your marvelous membership page, and I thought this unbelievable! How many are there out there? I had heard we might be of Scot, Irish, German? descent from the Snodgrass side. All right, I happen to be a little bit of all of those nationalities, combined with the other side of the family name and I so love the idea of being a part of your clan here. I know I have been told often enough, I look like a Scot woman, so it must be the truth. I know there are also some Ragsdale clan on the Paternal grandmother's side. My grandfather's name was Orville Snodgrass. He married Matties Inez Galleon. They remained friends, as well as lovers and companions, until they both took flight to Heaven back in the early and middle seventies. My Great grandfather's mother was Elenore B. Snodgrass, daughter of Issac Wesley Snodgrass. Elenore had a son by Fred Carper but never married him. She had a son , Frank Snodgrass, which had Billy Ray Snodgrass who married Clarice Ashley, my Grandmother.The mistake is that Elenore had Frank, NOT Billy Ray Snodgrass. Comments: Hi! My name is Imogene Morgan. My grandmother was Elsea Gretchen Snodgrass Miller. She was born in Nebraska but moved to OK when she was very young. They were coming here for the land run however as they were crossing the Arkansas River her 7 yr. old brother was following behind the wagon and was swept down stream by the swift current. They found him about 20 miles downstream. Then her mother went into labor and that delayed them further. They missed the land run but they traveled on to Perry, OK and her father sold his mules and bought a parcel of land. Just wanted to share that little bit of Snodgrass history.

I am searching for the history of a Roy Byron Snodgrass, born I think in Texas around 1890; died in Lebanon, Oregon, in 1920. He was my grandfather. His sister was Lillian, who married a man named Jarnagin, and had a son, Reese, who was married to Leona and they had two daughters. Roy's son, my father, was an only child. I was told some of the Snodgrass history as a youth but have forgotten most of it. I do remember John Snodgrass left home in Tennessee at the age of 17 and headed for Texas to be a rancher. Seem to recall that my great-great grandfather (John) was one of 3 brothers who settled in the Cumberland area aroung 1850. Any information would be helpful.

My GGGgrandmother was Mary Frances Snodgrass who married William Riley Ivey. They are in the 1870 Census in Franklin Co, Arkansas. Her father was Isaac Snodgrass who had lived in Franklin Co since at least 1829. The other children were Joseph b 1827, Robert Bean b 1830, Andrew Jackson b 1831, James b 1833, Jefferson b 1838, John b 1842, Eliza Ann (his twin) b 1842, and Elizabeth Jane b 1844. In addition there was a second Snodgrass family headed by Joseph who had a number of children, mostly girls and one boy James Wilson Snodgrass.

Hello to all the Snodgri! (We always figured that would be the correct
plural of Snodgrass.) I'm the daughter of Annie Mary Snodgrass, who was born in
Glasgow in 1924, and came to New Jersey in 1946 as a war bride. Her parents had moved to
Glasgow from Strabane, Ulster, when they were children, and we had always had
the impression that the name was Northern Irish/English. For the first time,
I am reading that Snodgrass is a genuine Scottish name. I'm intrigued! Because my father's
family is the Cumming clan, I guess I can claim to be 100% Scottish now. Cheers!

My relationship to the Snodgrass family if through the Snodgrass's that settled in Jackson County, Alabama, but I know little other than some names of earlier family. The first generation I have is that of John Snodgrass in Abingdon, Washington County, Virginia. I am a direct descendant of James D. Snodgrass who married Abigail Dunlop in Abingdon. When James died, Abigail moved to Jackson County, Alabama with her younger children to live with her older son, Alexander. Her youngest child, Margaret, was my great great grandmother. First of all- this is an incredible site! My mother and I have been trying to trace our roots, but as most of us have discovered, the Snodgrass name isn't very prevalent. We know that we are descendents from a Jeremiah Snodgrass, who settled in Pendleton County WV from Ireland in 1717 (I think that was the date). I am interested in finding any descendants of William Everet Snodgrass of Boise, Idaho. I believe he had a brother named Clinton. I may have some of the generations wrong but I have little to go on but what I remember the old folks talking about. I was born and raised in the Portland Oregon area.
Interesting to find so many Snodgrasses. It is nice to have a heritage so colorful. I had no idea Snodgrass was of Scottish origin. I had been told it was Irish.

It was a very good site on the snodgrasses but it was ashame that there wasn't any on your bulletin board from Australia.
I'm not real sure on our history but the Snodgrasses have been farming in the same area now for about 90-100 years.
All up there are 7 families farming here within a 7 mile radius of each other and only one other farmer who is no relation(poor guy).My great grandfather & grandfather cleared most of the land of trees that we all work on now.
Now we are starting to put some trees back where they belong. Keep up the good work on the Snodgrasses.

Hi We belong to the Mace. My husbands gggrandfather was Thomas Monroe Snodgrass born we believe around 1819 in PA?. His son was David W. born in York Co., PA. and his son was Roy A. born in Arkansas. I've been meaning to find out more about the Snodgrass side of my family for some time. I know the following from some old letters to my father from an older half-sister and a few other miscellaneous sources. My great grandfather was Kilburn Snodgrass. I don't know when he was born or where, but he was old enough to have a son in the Civil War and later enlist in an Illinois regiment himself. I recently found a Kilburn Snodgrass from Troy, Illinois (my father's home town) in some Illinois Civil War records. My branch of the Snodgrasses apparently came to Southern Illinois from Virginia (perhaps what is now West Virginia) by way of Ohio; but that part of the story is pretty sketchy. Kilburn Snodgrass married Mary Elizabeth McAdoo (born in Ireland in 1837 and presumably not his first wife). My grandfather, Lawrence Stonewall Snodgrass was born in 1869 and died in 1948, when I was an infant. My grandmother, Mabel Sackett (not his first wife) died in 1921 in a flu epidemic. I plan to join the Snodgrass Clan Society. If anyone has any suggestions on how to find the missing information, I'd be glad to hear them.

Have done some research. Live near Morman Temple (Mesa Arizona) where they have a lot of family records. We were the first Snodgrass family in Phoenix, Arizona. Later discovered the Phoenix bird was part of the Snodgrass Coat of Arms. Interesting how the same first names keep repeating themselves. Hi! I am researching my family lines and find I have a great-great-grandmother Helen Snodgrass born 14 April 1822 in Leith, Scotland. Helen married James Kerr and had a daughter Helen born 1853.
Helen Snodgrass's father was William Snodgrass but I don't yet have a birth/death date for him. He married Catherine Berry.
Any evidence of Snodgrass emigration Scotland to USA?

I am a Mace and, I'm very happy about that. I searched the internet for 'mace' and it took me here. I know nothing of the Snodgrass(sp) name yet there is evidently some connection. I'm from Kansas and, I'm proud of that also. I don't know who might read this little note but, I'd appreciate a reply if you have one.

My great grandparents were Rufus R. & Lethat Arminta Snodgrass of Nixa, Missouri. I know that my g-g-grandparents were WIlliam Monroe & Margaret(Brannon) Snodgrass and he is buried in Christian Co. Missouri and his parents were Thomas & Caroline Snodgrass. Is anyone out there related to any of these people?

Sorry about that.. I left out a generation yesterday. Andrew Jackson Snodgrass & His brother John James Snodgrass were sons of Christopher Columbus Sondgrass who was the son of John. (Now I feel better).
